Georgia brewery Wild Heaven Beer is paying homage to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a key figure in the fight against the coronavirus, in the most brewery-worthy way possible: by naming a beer after him.
Fauci Spring is a pale ale that was in such high demand after its initial release that the brewery has had to produce 1,300 additional cases.
The product is part of a larger slate of "pandemic beers," all seeking to find a bit of humor and joy in the current situation. The collection includes a rye India pale ale called We Will Meet Again—a name that references Queen Elizabeth II's recent message to the British population—and a German-style lager called Don't Stand So Close to Me.
"Our job is to put smiles on people’s faces and so if during this crisis these beers have provided a little bit of levity and a little bit of fun then I think we’ve done our job,” Nick Purdy, co-founder of the brewery, said to the Associated Press. We couldn't agree more.
Unfortunately, as of now, the ales are only available for contactless pickup at the brewery's two Georgia locations. Here's to hoping they will soon expand service to accommodate all Fauci fans outside of the state.
