Why is Walmart closing more stores in December?
Earlier this year, Walmart shut down 23 stores in 12 states. Places like Chicago, Portland and San Diego took a hit as the company tightened its belt. A mix of financial underperformance, rising operational costs and challenging lease renewals. Other closures throughout the year hit locations where foot traffic and profits had dwindled. The rise of online shopping has reshaped the retail landscape, and many Walmart locations were feeling the squeeze.
Which Walmart locations are closing?
This December, 11 more stores will be shuttered. California is bearing the brunt of it with five store closures, including San Diego, El Cajon, and West Covina. These are the locations that will be closing before the end of the year:
