Is the dollar slice a thing of the past? That seems to be the case in a handful of major cities where a hot slice can average almost three times our beloved staple. It might not sound like much, but even New Yorkers are falling victim to the rising prices of pizza.
According to Betting.com, which analyzed the cost of takeout pizza amongst 50 cities across the United States, the five most expensive cities for pizza are Portland, Oregon, San Jose, California, New York, New York, San Francisco, California, and Seattle Washington. Portland takes the crown, with an average cost per slice of $2.71 and the average cost of a 14” Margherita pizza clocking in at $21.67.
We’re much more interested in the cities that didn’t top the list, though. Detroit, Michigan, El Paso, Texas, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Fort Worth, Texas, and Tulsa, Oklahoma round out the least expensive cities to score a pizza, with Detroit earning high marks for their comparatively cheap $1.67 slice pizza.
According to Slice, Americans eat roughly 46 slices of pizza per year. So do your math before deciding where to grab your ‘zas. In Portland, that’ll set you back about $125, versus in Detroit, where it’ll only cost you about $77. Either way, a good slice of pizza is always worth it.
