Being single is not so bad, if you pick the right city to call home. Whether you're prioritizing safety, affordability, a lively social scene or a booming job market, finding a place that truly supports solo living makes all the difference. A recent study by Rocket Moving identified the best U.S. cities for singles based on key metrics including cost of living, job opportunities, safety, walkability, number of restaurants and others.

Austin, Texas comes in as the number one city for singles. Rent is manageable at $2,225, and the average home price of $309,897 keeps ownership within reach. Safety is strong, whether you're out during the day or late at night. With 49% of households being single-occupant and nearly 14 million open jobs, Austin has exactly what singles need to thrive.

Coming in second is Sacramento, California. Rent averages $2,137, and despite a higher average home price of $806,674, solo living is still within reach. Half the households here are single-occupant, the safety score is solid and the job market is strong.

At number three is Orlando, Florida. Low rent ($1,899), a healthy 4.60% job growth rate and a strong safety index make it a top contender. Plus, with 48,354 restaurants per capita, there's no shortage of places to meet people or enjoy a solo night out.

Rounding out the top five are Albany, New York and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The best cities for singles combine financial accessibility, personal freedom and a vibrant atmosphere where independent living isn't just possible—it's celebrated. While some cities might be better for pairing up, if you're looking for a place to thrive while solo, these singles-friendly cities are the place to be.
