Airbnb has released its summer travel trending destinations list, and we’re excited to explore this top 10 list of desired retreats for kicking back and relaxing after an intense winter. This list is based on U.S. cities that American users of the platform have searched for—which for this summer includes more than 72,000 cities and towns. Two of the top three include southern cities, and some of these towns are places you may not have heard of. It’s great to see some unusual listings on the site rather than the typical Florida searches; Florida is at #5 on the list and doesn’t appear again. Here without further ado is the top 10 trending summer destinations in the U.S.!
At #1 is Louisville, Kentucky, most likely because of last weekend’s Kentucky Derby. Lots of people came to town to cheer on the horses—those that survived, that is. And if you weren’t there for the races, you can still visit the Kentucky Derby Museum year-round, including a spooky “horses and haunts” tour. A six-person Airbnb home in Louisville is close to the Bourbon Trail and was viewed 116 times last week.
In second place is Laconia, New Hampshire. With lakes, forests, historic sites like a Shaker Village and more, this state is great for hiking, biking and road trips, including a route along the famous Kancamagus Highway. This four-guest condo is right on the edge of Paugus Bay at Lake Winnipesaukee and was viewed 104 times last week.
In third place is another Kentucky destination, Lexington. Known as the Horse Capital of the World, this city with 450 horse farms also draws equestrians, as well as bourbon lovers. This retro four-person cottage with a huge backyard has been viewed 177 times in the last week.
The rest of the list includes:
4. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
5. Panama City, Florida
6. Milwaukee, Wisconsin
7. Surf City, New Jersey
8. Bolivar Peninsula, Texas
9. Kansas City, Missouri
10. North Topsail Beach, North Carolina
