Gamblers and train lovers, get ready. Soon, work will begin on the new Brightline West rail line that will connect Los Angeles to Las Vegas. That much-anticipated line will host a high-speed rail train. Right now, field investigation work is beginning in the southern part of California inside the area that is supposed to be the rail corridor in the Interstate 15 right of way, between the two directions of traffic. Similar work was already started in Nevada.
The work entails things most of us can't do: "geotechnical borings and samplings, utility potholing and land surveying," according to Brightline's press release. You'll be able to see it taking place as you drive the interstate since most of it will happen during daylight hours, with just some done at night. Closures of shoulders may be required for short bursts to allow work.
If driving Interstate 15 is part of your plans, use extra caution in the work zones and be aware that there could be some delays and congestion as drivers try to see what's visible in the right of way and as they handle the shoulder closures. It's a small price to pay for the hope of a swift, sustainable train to be built!
