The Kentucky Derby will be replaced by a (much cuter) turtle race this weekend

The Kentucky Turtle Derby should happen every year.

This weekend marks the first Saturday in May, but it won't be horses that are galloping toward the finish line. With the Kentucky Derby officially postponed until Labor Day weekend, a significantly slower animal will be moseying to the starting line instead for what's being called the Kentucky Turtle Derby.

It's the first time the Derby won’t be held on its traditional first Saturday in May since 1945, which was also the year that the first Kentucky Turtle Derby (a much cuter alternative) happened instead.

For Derby fans, some things will remain the same (Triple Crown announcer Larry Collmus is calling the race), with some changes—the race (well, let's call it a marathon) will last a whopping eight minutes instead of the usual two minute sprint. But that just gives you more time to enjoy a mint julep as Sir-Hides-A-Bunch, American Toruga, Galapa-GO! and more compete for first prize.

The race will actually be pre-taped in Chicago, but you can watch it starting at 7pm on YouTube

So grab your largest hat, this is going to be a race for the ages!
