A new ski destination has opened in Telluride—and it's 12,500 feet above sea level.
Inspired by Alaska's mountaintop base camps, Bridal Veil Backcountry Ski Camp offers a new way to experience backcountry skiing, thanks to heated tents, catered meals and more perks to ease skiers into winter camping. This isn't your typical Telluride resort: base camp is a trio of double-walled Arctic Oven Tents pitched on insulated wooden platforms (for warm feet). Guests sleep on cots donned with sleeping pads and down sleeping bags.
Designed for expert-level skiers and snowboarders, this brand-new experience will open on Saturday, February 18 and run every weekend through Sunday, April 2. A booking includes three guided days of backcountry skiing, plus two nights at base camp, which is accessible by lift and skiing from the Telluride Ski Resort.
Several trails and destinations, including the historic Lewis Mine and Columbine Lake, can be accessed from Bridal Veil. And don't expect to spend your downtime posting the peaceful, quiet runs to TikTok—at base camp, weekenders can practice avalanche rescue skills, snow assessment and terrain management to further strengthen essential backcountry knowledge. The goal is to help adventurous skiers prepare for more expeditions, such as skiing Denali or Chamonix.
Registration for the skip camp is now open, with prices starting at $2748 for one skier and one guide. Reservations are available for groups of up to eight guests. Small groups open to sharing with other small groups can also access a discounted price. Necessary equipment, including avalanche rescue equipment (beacon, shovel and probe) is included with the cost of the trip, and Alpine touring skis, boots, skins and poles can be rented for $100 per day, plus airbag packs for $30 per day.
