Spring is the season of renewal, and Taco Bell is channeling that energy by giving an old menu item a new lease on life. Well, for a limited time at least. On Thursday, March 11, the fast food chain will bring back its fan-favorite Quesalupa, which disappeared from menus back in 2016.
If the name didn't tip you off, the Quesalupa is a mashup of a quesadilla and a chalupa that's stuffed with beef or beans plus lettuce, cheddar cheese, tomatoes and sour cream. To celebrate the occasion, Taco Bell is adding 50 percent more cheese to the already insanely cheesy double-layered shell.
"Behind the scenes in our test kitchen, my team is constantly hard at work ideating on how to enhance the food experience for our guests," says Liz Matthews, Taco Bell's Global Chief Food Innovation Officer. "Our customers raved about the cheese-filled Chalupa shell in its first debut, so when the Quesalupa began its return journey back to our nationwide menus, we knew we needed to perfect that cheesy experience—one that will be consistent for every guest and every bite."
Unsurprisingly, the Quesalupa was one of Taco Bell's biggest, most popular specialty menu items when it first launched back in 2015. Just like last time, fans will have a limited time to get their hands on this supremely cheesy handheld before it disappears again.
