There is no better way to kick off a Monday than hearing some much-needed exciting news: Twilight author Stephenie Meyer just announced the release of Midnight Sun, a new companion novel to her earth-shatteringly popular series.

The new tome will drop on August 4 and will revisit the same storyline as the first installment of the franchise, but this time from the perspective of Edward Cullen, the male protagonist.

The author shared the news on Good Morning America today (virtually, of course). “It's a crazy time right now and I wasn't sure if this was the right time to put this book out, but some of you have been waiting for just so, so long," she said. "It didn't seem fair to make you wait anymore. Sorry about the bad timing. Hopefully this book can be a distraction from the real world. I'm so excited to finally be able to share it with you."

This isn't the first time we hear about the book. Back in 2008, Meyer released a partial draft of the first chapter on her website. It took 12 years, but we're finally getting the work in its entirety—and, given the success of the series to date, we're sure it will have been worth the wait.
