Starbucks is shaking things up starting Monday with a new set of policies designed to bring back the charm of the community coffeehouse experience. The changes are rolling out across the U.S. and Canada starting today.

Patrons who choose to stick around while they sip will notice one of the biggest changes: if you order a beverage "for here," it’ll be served in a real coffee mug or glass, just like at the cozy coffee cafes of yore. You can also bring your own cup or mug of course-the planet thanks you! Even better, you can linger a while and get refills of hot brewed or iced coffee, or hot or iced tea for free.

Another welcome update is the return of condiment bars, fully stocked with creamers, milk and sweeteners so you can customize your drink to perfection. Loyal patrons will remember that Starbucks recently dropped the fee they charged for milk alternatives.

These recent changes are part of a broader effort by Starbucks’ new chairman and CEO, Brian Niccol, to revitalize the brand and boost declining sales. The aim is to return the chain to the warm, welcoming coffeehouse experience it once was.

For customer comfort, Starbucks also recently implemented a Customer Code of Conduct, which prohibits discrimination, violence, consumption of outside alcohol, smoking, drug use and panhandling. It also reverses its bathroom and "hanging out" policies, reserving those privileges for paying customers only.

The company hopes that shorter lines, cozier vibes and more thoughtful service will rekindle its connection with loyal customers.
