It’s not orange, and it’s not pertly round. This whiteish pumpkin is sort of slumpy, but it is ginormous and mostly identifiable as a pumpkin (with a few bulbous add-ons): this behemoth won an annual pumpkin weighing contest in California and set a new US record. As reported by Barrhead News, a horticulture teacher (who else?) named Travis Gienger grew this huge gourd in Minnesota and trucked it all the way to Half Moon Bay, California. It took him 35 hours to escort the pumpkin to California to participate in the 49th World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off.
So, we know you’re dying to know how big it was. Friends, it weighed 2,560 lbs. We’re not even sure how Gienger got it on the truck!
In discussing the win, Gienger told the Barrhead News that the growing conditions in Minnesota for pumpkin development aren’t that great: ‘It’s like winning the Tour de France on a big wheel. You know, you can only hope, but it worked.’
Where is the world’s largest pumpkin? It was grown in Italy and weighed 2,702 lbs, hitting the Guinness World Book of Records in 2021.
