What seemed like just an idea a couple weeks ago, has quickly become reality as Las Vegas casinos plan to reopen next week.
On Tuesday evening, Nevada governor Steve Sisolak confirmed that casinos can reopen starting June 4. While not all hotels will reopen next week, many of the big names we associate with the Strip have already promised to open their doors on the first day.
Caesars Palace and the Flamingo have confirmed that they plan to take advantage of the date by opening for lodging, dining, slot machines, table games and pool-side lounging. Caesars Entertainment also noted that several retail and dining outlets along The LINQ Promenade, including the High Roller Observation Wheel but not the LINQ itself, will reopen as well. MGM Resorts announced Wednesday that it will reopen the Bellagio, New York-New York, MGM Grand and The Signature on June 4. Amenities will include lounges, dine-in restaurants, pools, salons and fitness centers. Additional reopening include the Wynn and the Encore, The Venetian and The Cosmopolitan as well as their restaurants, bars, pools and gaming floors.
Boyd Gaming, which owns multiple properties off the Strip, plan to reopen The Orleans, Gold Coast, Suncoast, Aliante, Cannery, Sam's Town, Fremont, California, and Joker's Wild next week. Though, not all amenities will reopen on June 4 at these properties—buffets, movie theaters, spas, fitness centers and showrooms will stay closed for now.
Those who do plan to visit casinos next week will likely have to navigate new operating procedures such as restructured casino floors and thermal cameras as well as maintaining safety practices like wearing a mask, using hand sanitizer and social distancing. Earlier this month, The Nevada Gaming Control Board laid out new guidelines and restrictions for reopening including strict cleaning protocols and occupancy restrictions.
