We're not trolling you (we promise) and neither are the makers of Kraft Mac & Cheese: With the arrival of the fall season, Kraft Heinz is launching a limited-edition pumpkin spice flavor for their famous boxed macaroni and cheese in Canada (where it's called Kraft Dinner), following years of hype around the seasonal latté flavor.
Canadians are already signing up on a waitlist to taste it when it arrives this October, and only 1,000 of them will get the package: A box of Kraft Dinner that comes with a Pumpkin Spice Boost Pack—mixing "cinnamon, dashes of allspice, and layers of ginger, nutmeg, and cloves—plus a fork and a signature white coffee cup with the recipient's name written on it, "spelled wrong of course", the company's release promises.
Doubling down on the pumpkin spice (half) joke, the company recommends pairings that include "a cozy scarf, flannel shirt, fresh manicure and a pumpkin patch."
So this PSL-inspired food isn't a joke, and neither is Canada's love for it. Americans might not get it, but Kraft Dinner's a huge deal in Canada. Canadians eat 55% more of it than the USA, and collectively purchase 1.7 million of the 7 million boxes sold globally each week, which makes some think it's the de facto national dish of Canada.
"Canadians have always made KD their own way and not many people would expect KD to be part of the PSL conversation, but that's the whole point," Kraft Heinz's Senior Brand Manager Brian Neumann said in the product's press release. "So, move over lattes and muffins, PSKD is the must try new flavour this fall."
