Simone Biles decided to stop competing in Tokyo due to mental health reasons and to support her team. "I chose to not continue team competition in jeopardizing losing a medal (of any color) for the girls/U.S.,” Biles shared at the time. She said she was experiencing a phenomenon called “the twisties” in which gymnasts lose a mind and body connection while flipping, which can be quite dangerous. Biles is prioritizing her mental health upon her return to competitive gymnastics.
