Frontier Airlines, known for its no-frills approach, is entering the premium seating market with what it calls “first class-style” seats. It’s the latest budget airline to step into the upgrade game, in an effort to increase revenue.

These new, spacious seats are set to debut in late 2025. The first two rows will include the upgraded seating, which will feature added legroom and a recliner-style design. While details on pricing—and whether a seat upgrade will include perks like priority boarding and enhanced snack and beverage service—are still unknown, the move signals a shift towards fancier options when flying.

“Travelers should expect more from their airline and, in 2025, Frontier will deliver as we continue our transformation into the most rewarding airline in the sky,” Frontier Airlines CEO Barry Biffle said in a statement. “We've listened to customers, and they want more—more premium options, like first class style seating, attainable seat upgrades, more free travel for their companions, and the ability to use miles on more than just airfare. These changes represent an exciting new chapter in our transformation into The New Frontier.”

Yes, these new upgrades are called The New Frontier. Other changes will include updates to Frontier’s frequent flyer program. Complimentary seat upgrades will be available for elite loyalty program members, allowing Gold status flyers and above to enjoy premium seating like UpFront Plus, which features blocked middle seats, or the new first-class-style seats when they become available.

Passengers with Platinum and Diamond status will be eligible for unlimited free companion travel too. Frequent flyers will have greater flexibility with redeeming miles. Frontier plans to let members use miles to purchase fare bundles and individual add-ons, such as checked baggage and other services.

These upgrades are set to take effect at some point in 2025, so get ready for a fancier Frontier.
