Nothing tastes sweeter than ice cream on a warm day, except for free ice cream—especially when it comes from Ben & Jerry’s. The ice cream purveyor's legendary Free Cone Day is making its grand return on Tuesday, April 8, giving ice cream lovers a chance to indulge in their favorite flavors without spending a dime. All you have to do is show up at a scoop shop and claim your free cone. And if one scoop isn’t enough, just hop back in line and go for round two (or three, or four... really!).
Fan-favorite flavors like Cherry Garcia and Half Baked will be in the mix, alongside new treats like Dulce De-lish!—a dreamy blend of salted caramel ice cream, pecan toffee pieces and caramel swirls—and Turtle Sundae, which boasts pretzel swirls and fudge-covered almonds. If last year’s Free Cone Day is any indicator (when the chain dished out a whopping 1 million scoops), 2025 is bound to be another record-breaking year.
Ben & Jerry’s has been treating fans to this annual event since 1979, when co-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield decided to show their gratitude for making it through their first Vermont winter. Decades later, the tradition remains as sweet as ever.
Ben & Jerry’s isn’t the only place doling out free frozen treats, however. Dairy Queen is bringing back its own Free Cone Day on March 20 to celebrate the first day of spring. Fans can score a free small vanilla soft serve—no purchase necessary. And for those who really love their DQ, sign up for DQ Rewards before March 19 and you'll be entered for a chance to win Free Cones for a whole year.
