Amtrak’s got a new sale brewing—they want you to take a companion with you for free when you book a roomette. That’s a great deal since the roomette includes free meals along with the ride. A roomette is smaller than Amtrak’s bedroom, but it still works for overnight trips and has a door that closes between you and the rest of the train. Basically, a roomette is two seats that face each other, and a nook has been created to hold those seats. At night, Amtrak staff help you fold down the seats to form one bunk, and another bunk lowers from above the window. It’s private with a huge picture window for enjoying the view. On most trains, the roomettes are located in an area of the train that shares a bathroom with only a few other private rooms.
RECOMMENDED: Is it worth it to upgrade your coach seat to business class?
Amtrak has just recently upgraded its bedding, pillows, towels, and linens. The experience is considered first class, and the dedicated first class attendant will help you with luggage and can bring you meals if you don’t wish to go to the dining car. Anyone who books a roomette or bedroom receives free lounge access at the stations offering them, as well as priority boarding. Three meals per day are included; dinner is a three-course meal with one alcoholic beverage if desired.
Think ahead: this flash sale needs to be booked by December 8 for travel from January 3 through March 27, 2024. There are no blackout dates. It’s available on all long-distance service lines routes except for the Auto Train. The paying passenger and the free companion must travel together and be booked in the same reservation, and no other discount offers can be applied. There may be other restrictions as well. You can book on Amtrak’s website’s Fare Finder or by entering the code C103 on the app. More details can be found here.
