Heads up, procrastinators: Dollar General (and basically everyone else) is closing on Christmas Day.

If you’re banking on a last-minute holiday shopping spree, think again. Dollar General is shuttering all of its 19,000 locations nationwide for 24 hours on Christmas Day.

Why is Dollar General closing all their stores during the holidays?

Dollar General joins the ranks of major retailers like Costco, Target, Trader Joe's, and Walmart in hitting pause for the holiday to give their employees a much-deserved break.

Fortunately for those who lean towards last-second shopping, Dollar General is staying open until 10pm on Christmas Eve, giving you just enough time to pick up those forgotten stocking stuffers. Walmart is closing a bit earlier that day, at 6pm.

So, here’s your sign to get your shopping done now. Whether it’s Dollar General, Walmart or Trader Joe’s, none of them will be around to bail you out on December 25.

Other closures in the U.S. that have happened

Walmart closed on Thanksgiving to let its employees celebrate with friends and family. Though dozens of Walmart locations are set to close permanently in December (joining other chains like Walgreens, Red Lobster, Pizza Hut and TGI Friday's in shuttering locations), the Christmas pause is just temporary for most locations.
