Whether you're an original fan of the very horrible 2003 Tommy Wiseau film The Room or are newly obsessed with it after having watched James Franco's The Disaster Artist, which chronicles the making of the movie, you'll be happy to know that "the Citizen Kane of bad movies" will screen in over 500 theaters across the country on January 10, 2018 only.
Written, directed, produced and starred in by Wiseau—a rather odd fellow—14 years ago, The Room, a major flop at the box office, eventually became a cult classic with a passionate fanbase.
Fun fact: Wiseau promoted the film on a single billboard in Hollywood and kept it up there for five years (for $5,000 a month). It is now a tourist attraction.
Ironically enough, Franco's retelling actually succeeded at the box office this year. Made with $10 million (apparently, $4 million more than it took to make The Room), The Disaster Artist has already received a variety of nominations at this year's award shows.
You can see a full list of screenings and buy tickets to them on Fathom Events.
Oh, and in case you didn't know, Wiseau and Greg Sestero, his co-star in The Room (played by Franco's brother Dave in The Disaster Artist), will reunite in Best F(r)iends, another bizarre-looking project, this one directed by Gary Fong and set for theatrical release in 2018. Here is the trailer:
