Former President Barack Obama will address the nation on Wednesday afternoon following a week filled with nation-wide protests against the brutal killing of George Floyd by the Minneapolis Police Department.
Obama will be participating in a virtual town hall hosted by the My Brother's Keeper Alliance (under the Obama Foundation), along with former Attorney General Eric Holder as well as political and community leaders. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3 at 5pm EST on his website.
Obama has previously addressed the death of George Floyd and the protests on social media, but this will be his first on-camera remarks since Floyd's death on May 25.
In an essay posted to Twitter, Obama wrote, "It's natural to wish for life 'to just get back to normal' as a pandemic and economic crisis upend everything around us. But we have to remember that for millions of Americans, being treated differently on account of race is tragically, painfully, maddeningly 'normal' -- whether it's while dealing with the health care system, or interacting with the criminal justice system, or jogging down the street, or just watching birds in a park."
