It’s the Death Star meets the forest in this incredible hanging, spherical treehouse you can rent right now on Vancouver Island. It’s the first of its kind, and the company reAlpha, an AI-powered real estate investment startup, aims to expand into California as well.
At Free Spirit Spheres, these unique accommodations dangle in the woods with a low environmental impact design to encourage eco-sensitive tourism. Inside the unit, you’ll be climate controlled with surround sound audio (literally), dimmable lights, a kitchenette, love seat and queen bed. Best of all, fish-eye windows lets the forest around you appear even more encompassing. You can also purchase a sphere through the company to suspend in your own backyard.
These spheres are works of art. The Luna sphere is the most luxurious of the three and is situated in an artificial grove of yellow cedar logs with views of cedar and maple and a pond. A spiral staircase leads up to its entrance. A double bed descends at night on a hydraulic lift. The Melody sphere is yellow fiberglass with a bird mural; you cross a short bridge then climb a few stairs to enter. Inside, walls striped with black walnut enclose a Murphy bed. The Eryn sphere – currently closed for maintenance into 2024 – is crafted of Sitka spruce that you approach via an elevated walkway and then a spiral staircase. Two adults can sleep here with an option of a third in the loft bed.
Images show all three spheres to be charmingly appointed, kind of like living in a Disney pumpkin. You’re probably wondering, and we can answer: for each, the electric composting toilet outhouse is located nearby, while a private bathroom with running water is 54 yards away at a central bathhouse. And no, there is no disabled access for these units.
