Access to some of Colorado’s best skiing and riding terrain just got easier: the ski train is back!

Starting back up again in January 2023, as reported by Travel + Leisure, Amtrak's Winter Park Express connects urban Denver with the Winter Park Resort.

Book your ticket now for next month. The train runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday starting Jan. 13 and running through March 26, with one-way fares for adults starting at $34. You can stow your skis and snowboards in a dedicated storage area on the train for no extra charge. Much nicer than driving on potentially icy roads yourself—and the train is a double-decker with an upstairs observation car that gives incredible views of the Rocky Mountains through its curved glass walls and ceiling. Downstairs, you can get a small snack or drink in the lounge car with oversized windows.

Board the train at Denver’s gorgeous Union Station at 7am and be at the resort two hours later (get your lift ticket separately). For the return trip, board at 4:30pm. and be back by 6:30. The après ski vibe on the train will be fantastic!

Winter Park, Colorado's longest continually running ski resort, is opening up previously unused terrain this year, nearly doubling what's available for experts. For those who aren’t quite that steady on the slopes, there will be more grooming for intermediate trails this year too. And for pure beginners, eight percent of the terrain is nicely geared to low speeds and learning.

If you want to hit the resort on a weekday, the trusty California Zephyr train operates daily (and that train can link you to Colorado from anywhere between Chicago on one end and Emeryville, CA on the other). You just need to grab a shuttle connection at Fraser, CO, eight miles west of the resort (use station code WPS for Winter Park Resort to book the shuttle with your Zephyr ticket). All a'snowboard!
