Given current border restrictions, it should come as no surprise that most Americans are searching for domestic travel opportunities over international ones—at least according to Kayak's newly released travel data dashboard, which highlights trends from all over the world.
"We're making our search data available to inform and reassure the travel community," said Steve Hafner, the company's CEO, in an official statement. "Our industry has a long road to recovery but I'm encouraged by the positive signs that we are starting to see in consumer travel interest."
Those positive signs include increased flight searches across the United States starting late May—a trend that follows very low numbers recorded at the beginning of April.
In terms of specific destinations, the data showcases travelers' newly emerging interest for cities like Anchorage and San Juan over more traditionally popular choices the likes of New York and Los Angeles.
Needless to say, shutdown orders have been majorly affecting the witnessed travel trends. Take Las Vegas, for example: after the city announced the official re-opening of its casinos, Kayak noticed the sharpest spike in searches involving Sin City.
