The year 2021 is looking up for art lovers... especially those living in Tennessee. A major Pablo Picasso exhibit called Picasso. Figures is heading straight from the Musée National Picasso-Paris to the Frist Art Museum in Nashville between February 5 and May 2. This will actually be the much-anticipated exhibit's only appearance in the United States in 2021.
Bonus points: show will mark the American museum's 20th anniversary.
"Viewers will see how, as Picasso continuously deconstructed and then remade the body, he was also recasting the history of figuration as a combination of his own psychological view of humanity and observations about the disruptive nature of life in the 20th century," the Frist Art Museum's chief curator Mark Scala said in an official statement announcing the news.
Curious visitors will be treated to a total of 75 paintings, sculptures and works on paper by the inimitable artist, including some of his most recognizable masterpieces and other lesser-known ones.
The exhibited art pieces will also span across plenty different periods of Picasso's work. "The works in Picasso. Figures range from geometric abstractions of the human body to emotionally charged depictions of family, friends, and lovers, illustrating Picasso’s career, offering a panoramic summary of his wide-ranging creativity while providing glimpses of his tumultuous relationships with his wives, mistresses, muses, and models," reads the press release.
Given the lack of travel that has defined our 2020, we suggest all those who don't live in Nashville to consider a safe, thought-out and responsible trip to the Southern City. Picasso is calling, after all.
