At Time Out, we’re all about showcasing emerging talent, whether it’s by highlighting the unsung musicians of the moment, the on-the-rise actors who we’re betting will become the next big things or any variety of performers and artists who are blowing our collective minds. Which is why we’re happy to launch Inside Voices (#TOinsidevoices), a program that aims to let our readers know about the amazing non-established creatives out there.

This is a time of great home-creativity, whether you are in a garage band or are an armchair artist. What we are nudging you to do find an audience bigger than just your pets. We’re asking any and all up-and-coming artists to be bold and share their best stuff on social media (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and Twitter) with the hashtag #TOinsidevoices. We’ll then pick our favorites and share them. It’s a win-win: Chosen artists will be given a write-up, endorsement, link and the Time Out megaphone to reach a wide audience—some select ones will be offered gigs in our showcase once lockdown fully lifts—and we’ll get to show some love to work we genuinely dig. You might be wondering, “How does one get in on this #TOinsidevoices action?” Follow our FAQ below. Show us what you got and good luck!

Your questions about Inside Voices, answered:

How does #TOinsidevoices work?

Share your piece on social media with the hashtag #TOinsidevoices.

Time Out editors and judges will follow along closely. What catches their attention will be retweeted by Time Out, as well as shared on Facebook and through Instagram Stories.

One standout piece every week will be chosen by our culture congress. This act will receive an editorial write-up, their work will be shared across our U.S. social-media networks, they will have their link in bios for the day on the Time Out New York, Miami, Chicago and Los Angeles accounts. What’s more, they’ll be considered to take the stage at a Time Out Market for a showcase after those reopen.

What type of creative work does Time Out want to see?
You show us! It could be music, dance, photography, painting, close-up magic, impressions, puppetry, flair bartending, reciting poetry, contortion or whatever talent you want to share with the world. Yes, we’ll even consider miming.

Just make sure the work is original—no covers, no Shakespearean soliloquies, no tracing Lisa Frank designs and passing them off as your own. You must have the rights to publish the work, so there is also no passing off others’ creativity or even playing somebody else’s music in the background.

Does it have to be video?
That would be dynamic, but we’re down for single images or slideshows if that better represents your output.

Who can submit?
Anybody who hasn’t “made it” in that particular medium.

How will you know if you’ll be featured?
The act that we wish to highlight for that week will be reached out to through social-media messaging to work out the details.

For the other amazing talents who are reshared, you will receive a notification through your social media platform.

If you have been reshared, does that make you ineligible to be in the major highlight?
Absolutely not! Sometimes we like something but want to give our audience a taste to see if they feel the same way, so reshares are part of a litmus test for us. Also, if we have shared a piece of your work, definitely show us what else you've got.

Is this a contest?
No, this is more of a campaign to inspire people to share their gifts with other people who could really use some new, incredible entertainment these days.
