Given the extreme popularity of Kanye West's Yeezy sneakers (the Boost 350s sold out in the United States in less than two hours back in February), it is no surprise to find resellers listing them Amazon, eBay, Jet and the like for exorbitant prices.
But now, "always low prices" Walmart has officially joined in on the absurdity by offering a pair of mens "Red October" Air Yeezy 2s in a size 8.5 (retail price: $245) for the mere sum of, wait for it, $6,499. Talk about making a profit.
What's behind this seemingly un-Walmart-like decision? According to the website Sole Collector, the sneakers are listed on the company's e-commerce site, which functions as a sort of retailing proxy that promotes items on sale by retailers other than Walmart. These, indeed, aren't the only Yeezys listed on the site: you can snatch a pair of the Boost 350 "Oxford Tan" in a size 7.5 for just $1,149 or opt for the Boost 750 "Triple Black" for $3,999 in a size 6 (you big footed shoppers are in luck—a size 11 comes with a lower price tag: $2,150).
Time to dig (deep) into your piggy banks.
