Abomination? The result of divine inspiration? The jury's still out on this new dish from Hong Kong.
The rainbow "toastie"—Britspeak for a toasted sandwich, often sealed at the crisped edges—comes to us courtesy of HK café, Kala Toast, and follows hot (and oozing) on the heels of America's own similarly unicorn-food-looking rainbow bagel.
According to hkfoodblogger, whose Instagram pictures of the sandwich have shot it into the celeb-food stratosphere, each color of the sandwich's cheesy rainbow corresponds to a savory flavor. The blue is lavender, the green is basil, the red is tomato and the yellow is...cheese (four kinds: mozzarella, cheddar, emmental and gruyere). So, not too weird then.
The sandwich costs around $5.40.
Will the rainbow toastie, like the raindrop cake before it, make the journey from Asia to our very own shores? Time will tell.
