WARNING: The following post may make you question several life decisions.
It's not unusual for city dwellers to brag about a cheap deal that they got on their apartment—and it's even less unusual for visiting to friends to ask, "How much do you pay for rent here?" We tend to be a little obsessed with the cost of putting a roof over our heads.
And that cost can vary wildly depending on which patch of the USA you decide to call home. In New York, a three-bedroom penthouse in the new One57 building is listed at $150,000 per month; in Kentucky $4,999 per month will nab you a seven-bedroom McMansion (the price of several shoebox-sized apartments in Manhattan). And both of those places are the most expensive rental on the market in their respective states.
The folks over at RentCafe diligently scraped listing services from across the country and found the most expensive rentals in all 50 states across the country, and the disparity in price between the most expensive (Florida) and the least expensive (Arkansas) is pretty staggering.
See the full list below and see where your state's most expensive home rental stacks up.
