America's savviest streaming service looks like it's onto another winner having just finalized a ten-episode deal for the dark comedy Maniac.
Why are we so sure Maniac is going to be maniacally good? Let us count the ways.
The source material, for a start, is great: Maniac is a remake of a celebrated Norwegian comedy about a guy who lives a fantasy in his dreams but spends his days confined to a mental institution. Right now, Scandinavians + television = good (though usually bloody) times.
The behind-the-camera talent is proven: Cary Fukunaga—the man behind True Detective and director of Netflix's Beasts of No Nation—is expected to direct every episode of the series.
The on-camera talent is a grand reunion we've been waiting for: Jonah Hill and Emma Stone, who were catapulted to their current Oscar-nominated-heights by hilariously expert turns in Superbad, are taking on lead duties.
The show, it should be noted, is not a Netflix original, but produced by Paramount TV and Anonymous Content, who sold it (with stars attached) to the streaming service. No word yet on when it will be released.
