The year is 1985. The British Coal Miners strike has just ended. Nintendo is set to release the NES in the USA. And nine years before he's actually due to enter the world, a singer named Justin Bieber is owning the charts with the kind of deliciously soulful and funky mid-tempo ballads that would have WHAM spinning through their rolodexes and screaming, "I must know who wrote that tune!"
At least that is the beautiful fantasy world unleashed upon us by Canadian artist Tronicbox, aka Jerry Shin, who has released reimagined versions of recent Justin Bieber hits, all altered (and thoroughly enhanced) to sound as if they were '80s pop ballads. And they're divine. You'll never be able to hear "What do you mean (it's 1985)?" the same way again.
