It's (almost) the most wonderful time of the year: trick or treating season!

With Halloween just around the corner, Americans are starting to stock up on candies to both devour and distribute. What's the most popular choice? It depends on where you live.

Candystore.com crunched the numbers and broke down each state's top three favorite sweets. Check out the map above for the results. Does the site get it right?

Unsurprisingly, when looking at the country as a whole, candy corn seems to be the most popular choice. Folks in Alabama, Idaho, Michigan, New Mexico, Rhode Island and South Carolina prefer it over all else. Other standouts from the analysis include Reese's Cups (the top choice in Iowa, Kansas, Oregon and Wyoming), Milky Way (loved by Colorado, Maryland, Missouri and Vermont) and M&M's (most popular in California, Pennsylvania, D.C. and North Carolina).

A note about process: The site came up with the results by analyzing its own sales data over a period of ten years (from 2007 through 2016), paying particular attention to the months leading up to Halloween.
