Television's most curmudgeonly character is coming back. HBO announced today that Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm is set to return for a ninth season.

The series came to an end in 2011 after eight seasons, much to the chagrin of anyone who gets a kick out of watching the Seinfeld co-creator make a muck out of everyday social situations. The last time we saw David's character on the show, he had been kicked out of New York by Mayor Michael Bloomberg due to a misunderstanding while Michael J. Fox was giving a speech at a charity event. The show ended with an exiled David accompanied by Leon Black (J.B. Smoove) rambling down a Parisian street and getting into an argument in French over a driver's unsatisfactory parking effort.

Until recently, David has been pretty under the radar since Curb came to an end. He's made several appearances on Saturday Night Live as Bernie Sanders since the election season kicked off, as well as playing host for the show in February.

David seems to be well aware of his leisurely lifestyle over the last five years. When asked why he decided to bring the show back for another season, he said, “In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, ‘I left, I did nothing, I returned.'"

Details of the new season are not yet available, but we're hoping for plenty of Susie Greene telling Larry that he's a "sick fuck," more ridiculous-yet-somehow-brilliant comments from Leon and the return of a now-pubescent (but still fabulous) Greg.
