Best new hotels in the UK

Opening 2023 (TBC)

Okay, Manchester is popping off for a lot of reasons in 2023 – not least the long-awaited opening of mega venue Factory International – but how about one more? The Soho House-designed Mollie’s is coming to Manny and it’s set to be iconic. The new multi-storey hotel will be housed inside Manchester’s old Granada Studios (where the Beatles and the Sex Pistols had their first TV appearance) and will feature its classic contemporary room designs and workstations, done up in American motel diner style.

Opening 2023 (TBC)

This new Moxy in Newcastle is going to be the first Moxy Hotel in north-east England, offering stylish rooms without a hefty price tag. The boutique hotel will be right in the thick of it, at the Newcastle Helix, and you can expect it to pop off like all the Moxys that already exist all over the world.

Opening June 2023

Looking for somewhere eco-conscious? This is the place. The Mole is tucked away in the North Devon countryside, just by the River Mole (hence the name). It’s a collection of loads of little lodges, all of which are self-catering, and yes, there are hot tubs. You’ll find an on-site farm shop and restaurant, plus great walking routes (and horse-riding opportunities) nearby.

Opening late 2023

This brand-new luxury hotel and spa in Chester won’t open its doors to guests until the end of 2023, but it’ll definitely be worth the wait. You can expect 18 chicly designed rooms and a huge rooftop pool, plus a restaurant serving up ‘no frills, no gimmicks’ British food made from seasonally sourced ingredients.

Opening spring 2023

Margate is filled with endless opportunities for culture (and fish and chips) and No.42 will be right in the centre, with suites looking out across the bay. The new hotel will feature 21 bedrooms, a restaurant, rooftop and spa, and replace a Victorian beachfront hotel that was already there.

Opening late 2023

If you’re looking for a spot of luxury, this new five-star hotel should do the trick. Sands Venue Resort should offer the bougie, fluffy-dressing-gown stay of your dreams, with its huge spacious suites and bedrooms all designed in swish Art Deco style. You’ll also find a swanky bar and restaurant downstairs, plus that all-important spa.

Opening spring 2023

Looking for something a little different? Treehouse Hotel brings your childhood dreams to life with colourful rooms and suites, a bunch of fun activities, and yes, treehouses. You can even book rooms for six pals, like one giant sleepover. And if you’re new to the city, Treehouse’s team of expert ‘fun finders’ will apparently show you all the best (and wildest) things to do in Manny.

Opening spring 2023

This iconic hotel will launch in the Grade II-listed Old War Office on Whitehall, with a whopping 120 rooms and suites and nine restaurants and bars. But if you think this is any old hotel, you’d be mistaken. There’s also an immersive luxury spa and a grand ballroom (yes, a ballroom), so perhaps you’ll be able to court the love of your life during your stay.

Opening spring 2023

The Tempus offers something a little different to your bog-standard hotel. The Tempus is an ‘Alice in Wonderland’-themed extravaganza, designed by the guys who created its sister venue, Charlton Hall in Alnwick. The 15-room hotel features wild and intricate interiors, from leopard-print wall hangings to aztec rugs, and the bar and restaurant promises some unique delights too.

Opening late 2023

The Ruby Hotels are all given different girls’ names. The one opening in Notting Hill will be called Ruby Zoe, joining Ruby Lucy and Ruby Stella in London, and tons more all over the world. To remain suitably girly, Zoe will include some shops (as many others in the franchise do), as well as 173 rooms with a fresh and modern look.

Opening early 2023

The team behind Bike and Boot won Best Hotel Interior Design of the Year at the Northern Design Awards 2020 for their Scarborough outpost, so lots of people are pretty excited about their second opening (plans are afoot for further sites in the Midlands, Wales and Scotland). The design will be quirky but contemporary, and surrounded by the wide-open Hope Valley in the Peak District. Plus there’s plenty of opportunity to go surfing and biking nearby.
