Brummies (and, for that matter, anyone who lives near the West Midlands city), we come bearing exciting news. Your summer holiday options just got a bit broader, as Wizz Air has announced that it’ll be launching direct flights between Birmingham and Rome this June.
From June 16 2025 Wizz Air will operate three direct services a week (on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) between Brum and Rome Fiumicino. The budget airline’s route will compete with UK-based carrier Jet2, which is currently the only operator offering direct Birmingham-Rome flights.
Better yet, Wizz Air’s Birmingham-Rome service will be impressively affordable. Wizz says tickets will start from as low as £31.99 (which is one-way, but includes taxes and a small carry-on bag). For comparison, we couldn’t find direct Jet2 flights between the two cities for much less than £150 return (though Jet2’s standard baggage policy is slightly better, including bigger cabin bags).
Commenting on the new service, Wizz Air’s corporate communications manager Olivia Harangozó said: ‘We are excited to add this new route to our portfolio in Birmingham, giving more opportunity for Brits to visit the eternal city in its Jubilee Year for low fares.
‘Rome is one of the world’s most iconic destinations, and we are delighted to continue offering new affordable travel options to one of the most sought-after city-break destinations for British tourists.’
The new route also, of course, benefits Romans wanting to explore Brum (the latter is one of Time Out’s best city breaks in Europe, after all). Find out more on the Wizz Air website here.
Time Out in Rome
So, you’ve booked yourself a Roman holiday – what next? Our Rome correspondents have put together guides to the city’s best hotels and Airbnbs, as well as the Italian capital’s top attractions, restaurants and general things to do. Plus, this year Rome will host its once-a-quarter-century jubilee celebration, which we named the best thing to do in the entire world in 2025.
Did you see that Jet2 was just named the best short-haul carrier in the world?
