Life on Mars and State of Play actor John Simm has dealt with some shady business on screen before, but not with quite the regularity of his Brighton-based copper Roy Grace. The detective superintendent is back on the telly to tackle more criminal activity on the South Coast in a fourth series of ITV’s hit crime drama ‘Grace’.
Based on Peter James’s bestselling Roy Grace novels, the series does for Brighton and surrounds what Luther does for London, transforming it into a murky, heightened underworld.
The show’s fourth series kicks into gear with the mysterious robbery of some Brighton antiques.
The synopsis, via TV Zone, runs: ‘As Grace digs deeper into this mysterious crime, he unearths a web of ancient grudges, a web which leads him down a dark and murderous trail through the world of Brighton antiques in a race against the clock to untangle who is at the heart of this robbery and bring Gavin Daly the answers he has been desperately chasing for many years.’
Where is Grace filmed?
Brighton is the show’s main turf and the town’s seaside landmarks – Brighton Palace Pier, Hove Lagoon and Embassy Court among them – have been regular fixtures across the four seasons to date.
The South Downs will feature prominently too, including Devil’s Dyke, eight miles from Brighton to the north. It’s been a crime scene in previous seasons.
Who is in the Grace season 4 cast?
Alongside Simm is Zoë Tapper as Cleo Morey, a pathology technician whose romantic connection with Grace is now firmly established. Also back for season 4 is Richie Campbell as Grace’s best mate DS Glenn Branson, and Line of Duty’s Craig Parkinson as blunt-spoken DS Norman Potting. Another Line of Duty alumnus, Laura Elphinstone, plays DS Bella Moy, another colleague of Grace’s on the force.
Robert Glenister joins the show as antiques dealer Gavin Daly, whose sister is the victim of a violent crime in episode 1.
How can I watch and when does it start?
The first two episodes of season 4 landed on ITV1 and ITVX on September 1 and 8, with the two following episodes airing on Sunday nights until September 22 (8pm on ITV and 9pm on ITVX).
Will there be a season 5 of Grace?
Yes, and the episode titles have already been announced: Dead If You Don't, Dead at First Sight, Need You Dead and Find Them Dead. ‘Series five promises to deliver four more episodes full of surprises and intrigue that the ITV and ITVX audiences have come to love,’ says ITV drama commissioner Huw Kennair Jones. One character who won’t be returning, however, is Parkinson’s DS Norman Potting. The actor has confirmed that series 4 will be his last on the show.
