When is the 2024 General Election?

The 2024 General Election takes place on Thursday July 4 2024.

What time do polling stations open?

Across the country, polling stations will open at 7am BST.

What time do they close?

Polling stations will close at 10pm BST. If you’re in a queue to vote outside your polling station at 10pm, you can still vote.

How to find your local polling station

Your local polling station will be clearly stated on your ballot paper, which you will have received in the post if you’re registered to vote.

You can also find your local polling station on the Electoral Commission website here.

Can I take my postal vote to any polling station?

You can drop your postal vote off at your designated polling station, which will be on your ballot paper.

Can you vote without your polling card in the UK?

You can, but the process takes longer. You’ll need to still go to your local polling station, then provide your name and address to staff. They’ll then cross your name off a list and you can vote.

Are dogs allowed in polling stations?

Guide and assistance dogs are allowed inside polling stations. However, whether other dogs and pets are allowed is at the discretion of your local authority.

Dogs are, however, allowed to be taken to polling stations and safely secured outside, hence the popular #dogsatpollingstations hashtag.
