It is very, very cold in the UK at the minute. So cold, in fact, it actually snowed last weekend, and said snow hung around for days. Obviously it sent the nation into meltdown, but let’s be honest, it was also really fun.

Yesterday it began to seem like the fun was well and truly over, with highs of 14C forecast for next week for the festive period. But it looks like the weather is having one last go at being absolutely wild – with four (yes four) inches of snow predicted for this weekend. It’s also going to be seriously wet and windy, just to top it all off.

In parts of Scotland, there is heavy rain and snow predicted for Sunday, with things really getting serious around 8pm. Snow is also expected for the north of England. The UK Health and Security Agency has put out a warning about the extreme weather this weekend, and the Met Office has put out a yellow warning for snow and ice.

A UKHSA spokesperson said: ‘During the transition to milder air on Sunday, a band of snow is expected across England, perhaps heavy at times over northern hills, but readily turning to rain as the milder air feeds in from the south west.’
