It’s official – UNIQLO has boarded a flight from Japan and is touching down in Edinburgh later this month.

The popular, minimalist ready-to-wear clothing brand first announced plans to open a Scotland location last year, and said its arrival ‘marks the regeneration of the shopping scene in Scotland’s capital.’ Now, the store’s highly anticipated opening day is nearly upon us.

The bright, 1,430-square-metre shop on Princes Street will have its ribbons cut on April 25, 2024 at 9am.

UNIQLO is known worldwide for its fresh take on practical, everyday clothing, as well as a few iconic items (famously, the brand’s nifty little crossbody bag worn by everyone and their brother, and the Great Kanagawa wave tee). Now, UNIQLO plans to infuse Edinburgh’s fashion scene with its stripped-back trendiness, and will work with a few local icons to cement its presence in Scotland.

Edinburgh is a city of great cultural and historical heritage, and we are excited to partner with a few of the many people who help to make the city so vibrant,’ said Alessandro Dudech, UNIQLO UK’s Chief Operating Officer. ‘Together, we will show how LifeWear brings people together, transcending differences in everyday lives. We invite the people of Edinburgh to join us in celebrating the opening of our new store and to be part of this exciting milestone with us.’

UNIQLO’s partnerships include a range of local personalities, from Darcie Maher – owner of the uber-popular Lannan Bakery – to Aisha Fatunmbi-Randall, marketing and digital director for Edinburgh’s Leith Theatre. Each person selected to collaborate apparently ‘represents Edinburgh’s vibrant spirit and embodies the UNIQLO LifeWear ethos’.
