Serious frost is forecast for parts of England, Scotland and Wales this month, potentially bringing with it a sprinkle of snow.
According to WX Maps, which uses Met Office data, snow could hit Wales, parts of Birmingham and the Cotswolds, the Lake District and Pennines and further south in Southampton, in just a matter of days.
The chilly blast is predicted to reach us some time between October 10 and October 11 in the aftermath of Hurricane Kirk. Don’t bother getting your sledge out the cupboard, though – the snow probably won’t stick around for long.
Jim Dale, senior meteorological consultant at British Weather Services, told Birmingham Live: ‘As it moves through England and Wales and out into the North Sea on October 11 and October 12, that cold air surges in behind giving the potential of some temporary wet snow especially over higher ground. However, long ways to go with the steerage on all of that and strong winds/heavy rain from that system are likely to be the first points of concern.’
A long-range forecast by the Met Office suggests that the snow will be limited to high ground in northern-most regions. One thing we know for sure though, there will be showers and strong gusts.
The Met Office says: ‘Scotland and Northern Ireland are more likely to quickly turn colder with showers, and the colder weather (perhaps some sleet/snow on Scottish mountains) will most likely gradually work its way south following the clearance of ex-Kirk.’
