Last month south-coastal Englanders received some bad news: British Airways is axing all flights from Southampton Airport. BA previously offered routes from the Hampshire hub to destinations in Spain, Portugal, France and Ireland.
This week, however, Southampton Airport received some much better news. Airline Tui has announced that it will be returning to the air hub after 15 years away. The German airline last operated from Soton in October 2009.
Tui is launching a service from Southampton to Palma de Mallorca in Spain, and the flights will be weekly on Tuesdays from May 27 2025 until September 20 2025. The route syncs up with the summer program of Marella Cruises.
About the new route, Tui’s director of aviation planning Karen Switzer said: ‘We are extremely excited to return to Southampton Airport to reconnect travellers with the vibrant corner of the world that is Palma.
‘We understand how important it is for customers to have access to flights from their local airports, and this latest addition brings the number of regional airport that TUI Airways fly from to 24. We look forward to welcoming customers on board from May next year and taking them away on their dream Mallorcan holiday.’
In the most recent ranking by consumer advice company Which?, Southampton Airport was one of only five in the UK given a ‘recommended’ rating. The hub is one of the best airports in the UK, praised for being ‘small and friendly, with minimal queues’.
