What’s a city without its public transport? The world’s metropolises may be better known for buzzing nightlife, fascinating culture and really, really good food. But all that’s a bit redundant if you can’t even get from A to B, right?
So, in our latest annual best cities survey, besides stuff like the food and dating scene, we quizzed 18,500 city-dwellers across the globe on what they think about public transport in their hometowns. And, as it turns out, the UK is home to three cities that made it into the top 19 globally.
With it’s enormous 402km tube network and 675 different bus routes, London came out as the best European city for public transport and sixth best in the world. An impressive 86 percent of the locals we surveyed were happy with its transit systems – you can read more about that here.
Though much easier to get around on foot than the capital city, Brighton was the next best UK city on the list. It landed in 14th place with 80 percent of locals agreeing that the seaside city’s transport is ‘good’ or ‘amazing’. You can get to London in just over an hour and get around the city itself via 73 easy tap-on tap-off bus routes.
Just below in 15th place was Edinburgh, which also received 80 percent positive responses. Like Brighton, Edinburgh is pretty walkable, but when you want to get further afield there’s an efficient fleet of buses or the recently completed tram network on offer.
