There’s a lot of things to think about when raising a family – stuff like safety, schools, green space and house prices are all up there when considering the best place to bring up a kid. Of course, those things differ from place to place.
Some of us will move somewhere more rural when we’re ready to settle down, others will find it more difficult to leave urban life behind and want to relocate to another city.
If you’re part of the latter and looking for a new place to call home, look no further. Language learning platform Italki has done some digging to find out which cities offer the best experience for families looking to move abroad. And Edinburgh ranked number one in the world.
The study crowned the Scottish capital the best city for expat families thanks to its high number of things to do (32.8 per 10,000 people), its safety index score (68.8) and its global education rank of 12th. It also found that it offered the longest paid maternity leave of the top ten countries — 39 weeks (which is the same across the UK).
Italki wrote: ‘From exploring historic castles to strolling through charming gardens, Edinburgh promises endless opportunities for family bonding.’
