The UK has no shortage of Christmas markets. Come November and December this nation boasts a festive fair for every occasion, from the historic and picturesque to others packed with indie stalls or boasting all-guns-blazing lights displays.
There are so many Christmas markets in the UK that it’s difficult to know which ones are most worth your time. You’ve got Time Out’s guide to the best Christmas markets in the UK, of course, and last week one report put three British festive fairs in a ranking of the best on the planet. The Independent also recently named its 12 top UK Christmas markets for 2024, as did consumer company Which?.
Looking for a fifth opinion? We’ve just the thing. The Telegraph has just named its ‘favourite’ Christmas markets in Europe – and one from the UK made the cut. The newspaper’s list features 10 markets, each chosen for an individual specialism.
The only British market to make the cut was Edinburgh. Rubbing shoulders with markets in places like Vienna, Munich, Brussels and Prague was the Scottish capital, which received the accolade of ‘best for activities’.
In the Telegraph’s list, Auld Reekie scored poorly for its ‘weather’ and ‘culture’ (only getting two marks out of 10 for each) but received an impressive seven for ‘activities’. The article picked out Edinburgh’s rides and covered ice-skating rink as among its best things to do.
You can find the Telegraph’s full list of the best European Christmas markets here.
