Going overseas for the festive season? Your one Christmas wish is probably that your flight goes smoothly, without any disruptions or, worst of all, cancellations.
Well, we hate to break it to you but if you plan to travel from Leeds Bradford Airport this December, you’re most at risk of your flight being axed. That’s according to a new study by airport transfer company SCS Chauffeurs.
Researchers used data from the Civil Aviation Authority and looked at the percentage of cancelled flights at 23 large UK airports in December across three years. Leeds-Brad had the highest with an average December cancellation rate of 7.2 percent.
A spokesperson for the airport said: ‘Throughout the year, our team work around the clock to ensure passengers can safely fly to a variety of destinations across Europe.
‘Cancellations can unfortunately occur due to a range of potential reasons and always as a last resort. We work closely with our airline partners to ensure disruption is kept to an absolute minimum.
‘We always advise passengers to arrive with plenty of time, up to two to three hours before departure and to check their flight’s status regularly with their airline.’
On the flipside, East Midlands Airport emerged as the most reliable airport for the festive season, with an overall cancellation rate of just 0.28 percent. Across the past three Decembers, it only had nine flight cancellations.
Belfast International Airport, Exeter Airport and Luton Airport also had pretty good track records, with 0.32, 0.56 and 1.02 percent of December flights cancelled respectively.
More from UK airports
Leeds Bradford could soon get better, thanks to a huge £100 million makeover. It also recently launched its first ever long-haul flights.
