So 2022 is nearly over (what a ride it’s been!) and 2023 is right around the corner. That means it’s definitely not too early to be getting your summer travel plans ready for the next 12 months.

But if you don’t know where to start, we’ve come to the rescue. The travel publisher Rough Guides has just released its list of the top travel destinations for 2023 – and three of them are right here in the UK. The list was based on a survey that asked people where they wanted to visit most in 2023, as well as recommendations from its editors and travel experts across the globe.

One of the three British destinations that made the cut is the Scottish Highlands. Rough Guides pointed out that it was the perfect destination for hiking and other outdoor activities, filled as it is with beautiful national parks and some seriously nice lochs (including Loch Ness).

But that isn’t the only UK staycation destination you need to add to your 2023 travel list. Leeds also featured on the list of 23 destinations, and so did Pembrokeshire in South Wales. The full list is as follows:

  1. Antarctica
  2. Berlin, Germany
  3. Bohol Island, the Philippines
  4. Cordoba, Argentina
  5. Dominica, Nature Island of the Caribbean
  6. Fes, Morocco
  7. Kanazawa, Japan
  8. Korčula, Croatia
  9. Leeds, Yorkshire
  10. Ljubljana, Slovenia
  11. Mekong Delta, Vietnam
  12. Naples, Italy
  13. Northern Cape, South Africa
  14. Oaxaca, Mexico
  15. Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica
  16. Pembrokeshire, Wales
  17. Pensacola, Florida

  19. Sydney, Australia
  20. Torres del Paine, Patagonia, Chile
  21. Toulouse, France
  22. Wellington, New Zealand
