What would you do with your very own large, abandoned coastguard station? Well, if you happen to have a spare £1.5 million to spare, you can find out exactly what you’d do with such a place – as one has just gone on the market.
The for-sale coastguard station is set next to the quiet Welsh village of Mumbles. If you fancy dropping a million and a half on it, however, maybe don’t get too excited just yet – it needs a lot of repairs. The current roof lets in a lot of rain and dirt, which is the one thing a roof is really not supposed to do.
The disused brick structure has panoramic views of the Bristol Channel and contains 6,300 square feet of pure potential. Once you’ve completely refurbished the interior, you can let your imagination run wild. A library, a hotel, a museum full of coastguard related memorabilia. Go wild.
And do be creative; Will Thomas, councillor for Mumbles, expressed that he ‘really [doesn’t] want it to be a house – I think it would show a lack of ambition.' The only catch is that whatever you do can’t change the landscape much, as the abandoned property is within the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
It has been sitting sad and alone for a while now, having last been used for administration and training purposes. Quite the office, eh?
Here's what could be yours.
