South-westerners, gather round! Got Amsterdam on your 2025 bucket list? Soon, there will be a much, much more convenient way for you to get there. In the spring, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will launch a brand new flight to the Dutch capital from Exeter Airport.

Beginning operation in late March (shortly after the relaunch of the Amsterdam-London Eurostar), it’ll be the first time since 2019 that Exeter and Amsterdam are linked by direct flight.

The trip will take around 90 minutes and one-way fares start from £115 per person. Flights will operate every day of the week, leaving Exeter at 5.20pm and touching down at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport at 7.50pm local time. Planes from Amsterdam back to the UK will take off at 4.15pm local time each day.

Jerome Salemi, general manager for UK & Ireland at Air-France-KLM, said: ‘We are very excited to launch Exeter as KLM's 18th departure point from the UK to Amsterdam and beyond.

‘We hope our new services will contribute towards the economic, touristic and cultural development of the region and the local community.’

Paul Coles, chief executive officer of the South West Business Council, said the new route was ‘really important’ for the area.

He said: ‘It gives us opportunities for both inbound tourism, which is really critical for our bedrock industries in the south west, but also that outbound piece to the rest of the world’.

Eyes on the skies

KLM’s new Exeter route isn’t the only one taking off for the first time. Another regional UK airport just got five new cheap holiday routes, easyJet is set to launch its longest ever flight from England and Tui is returning to one of the UK’s ‘best’ airports for the first time in 15 years.
