The average cost of a house in the UK is £282,000, which, let’s face it, most of us probably don’t have lying in our bank accounts. We’ve found one for a tenner, which you probably do.

That’s right. For ten Great British pounds, you could be a homeowner on the Isle of Wight. No need to cut down on Netflix or avocado toast or oat lattes, just say yes, transfer the £10, and take the leap. Quite literally in fact, as this home comes equipped with its very own gorge.

As you may have guessed, a deal this good has a catch – and a substantial one, at that. And in this case, it just so happens that thanks to a recent landslip most (all) of the property’s back garden was lost to the elements back in December, when 40 acres of land collapsed leaving a sharp cliff in its wake.

Sure, living in potential sinkhole territory is not ideal, and Leeson Road, where the house is, is actually still not open to the public for safety reasons, but look on the bright side. The actual home only faced minor structural damages. A win is a win!

If you’re tempted but want to see what you’re getting yourself into before you splurge, you’re out of luck. Auctioneers haven’t actually been inside yet, but once it’s yours you’re free to enter and fall through as many damaged floorboards as you want to.

What you can know is that it’s a two bed, semi-detached property, and it will be going up for auction at 10am on September 27 with that sweet sweet starting price of 10 quid. You’ll have to sign up beforehand if you want to place a bid, which you can do here. Here are some more pics of the place, taken from a safe distance.

If you want to have a look at the full listing you can do so on Rightmove here although we will warn you – there’s not much to see unless you’re a huge fan of weeds and roughage. Still, a home’s a home, and who doesn’t love a project? Good luck on this true fixer-upper to whoever the lucky bidder ends up being.

Looking to move?

Okay we get it, you don’t fancy living on a cliff edge. Why not try Saltcoats in Scotland, which is officially the cheapest seaside town to move to? If you prefer to roam at night, Manchester has some of the best nightlife in the world, or if neither of those take your fancy, why not just buy yourself a castle and move off the grid? The possibilities really are endless. Plus, read about how another study reckons a London neighbourhood is the best place to raise a family.
