Whether you’re a fan of wide, blustery stretches of open sand or love the sights and sounds of a seaside arcade, everyone has a favourite seaside spot. And the UK has seasides for all kinds of people – just look at the breadth of our own list of the best beaches in the UK.
If you’ve been wondering which UK seaside destination is the nation’s fave right now, we’ve got just the thing. The Seaside Heritage Network has just revealed its inaugural Bucket and Spade List, which ranks the top seaside places and experiences as voted by members of the public.
Top of the list came, drumroll please... Saltburn-by-the-Sea in North Yorkshire! Famous for its distinctive pier and gorgeous 138-year-old Victorian cliff tramway, Saltburn offers holidaygoers a dazzling place to soak up some sun, sea, sand and shingle. It’s a favourite in winter as well, as the sun rises just in front of the chalky cliffs in the colder months.
The rest of the list also leans towards the UK’s most nostalgic beach spots. In second place was the Blackpool Tower in Lancashire which features attractions like a circus, glass viewing deck and a dungeon experience. Third place went to the beautiful Morecambe Winter Gardens, which is home to an ornate Victorian ballroom.
Here’s the list of the top ten best seaside places and experiences, according to the Seaside Heritage Network.
- Saltburn Cliff Tramway, Saltburn-by-the-Sea
- Blackpool Tower, Blackpool
